PuntWG has a large and diverse network. However, it reaches only living persons. Which figure from a long bygone era would you have liked to invite to your project? Can you expand on your (hypothetical) collaboration?

Leonora Carrington (1917-2011) without a doubt. Presented at Court before the English king, she fled to southern France shortly after with Marx Ernst, decades her senior. But my interest is not so much in that she became a muse for the surrealists, but in her own extraordinary life, writing and painting during her long years in Mexico. For Carrington had a most precious gift that she so generously shared: the talent to weave the magical into our banal everyday lives and hope into pain. Once you realise that, of course, nothing is ever the same again. It is a most profound truth to take life so effortlessly less seriously.

My work has been deeply inspired by her (as is by another great writer, Virginia Woolf). Carrington’s stories accompanied me in my journey through Latin America and she often appears in my stories. As she said: how can anyone be a person of substance if they drown their fears in common sense?

Eva Kalyva was the third artist in residence of airWG. Her exposition  The Travel Diaries – Tales from Latin America was on display from the 26th untill the 28th of August in puntWG.
